Description: This is a magnificent Baroque Mirror made during the middle part of the 17th century and originally coming from Genoa. Genoa is a port city and the capital of northwest Italy's Liguria region. It's known for its central role in maritime trade over many centuries and has been at war with Venise several times during the 13th and 14th centuries. We strongly advise you to google the name of the city to see fantastic pictures of this Historical town. This eye-catching Mirror is typical from the region. It consists of a boldly and intricately hand-sculpted frame made from lime tree and boasts a beautiful embellishment representing angels and acanthus leaves. This type of mirror was usually offered as a gift to the housewife with the upper face depicting her. Note the mirror is not original and has been replaced at some point. Circa 1640-1650. Dimensions 17¾" high/ 13¾" wide.
