Description: This is an interesting second half of the 19th century Credenza Secretary made from solid oak during the Renaissance revival period following the Napoleon III era. This nice cabinet is originally coming from the city of Toulon in the south of France, which has always been a a significant naval base. The harbor is home of warships, submarines, as well as fishing boats and ferries. We will advise you to google the name of the city to see beautiful pictures of the area. This credenza consists of an upper cabinet with a pair of recessed paneled doors accented with anchors, revealing a spacious storage area. This latter sits upon the central drawer, which expose a nice writing area with small storage compartments and drawers for letters or other documents. The black leather is in original and used condition but still passable for its age. The upper part stands on a lovely pair of barley twisted columns and a back recessed panel, connected to each other thanks to a bottom shelf with spindle rail galleries, all supported by large turned feet. Locks are in working condition. Wear consistent with age and use. 1870-1880. Dimensions 50"high/ 32"wide/ 19"deep/35"deep with working area pulled out.
